Cambodia Gambling Dens
Wednesday, 30. December 2020
There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is prohibited. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is real of many borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, features 150 slots and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel building that contains a number of amenities on top of the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
