There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is prohibited. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, features 150 one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel building that features numerous luxuries in addition to the casino, which has ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
